Collection of documents, posters and publications, related to the protest of the Eda HaCharedit opposing the appointment of the pathologist Prof. David Maier as Director General of Shaare Zedek Hospital, in 1968.
Among the items:
* Handwritten notes, letter drafts and copies of letters related to the affair, including rabbis' letters and correspondence with R. Shlomo Pappenheim [member of the Eda HaCharedit], essays, etc. * Printed publications of the Shaare Zedek hospital and of the Committee for Saving Shaare Zedek. * Pashkevilim (posters) against the Shaare Zedek Hospital and opposing autopsies. * Newspaper clippings with articles and coverage of the affair.
Prof. David Maier was appointed Director General of the Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem in 1968, after the death of his predecessor Dr. Falk Schlesinger. His appointment spurred fury in Charedi circles, due to his occupation as a pathologist, and as part of the fight of the Charedi Jews at the time against autopsies. The fierce opposition to Prof. Maier swelled to violence against him. This collection contains documents, letters and pashkevilim from this affair.
