Letter of Recommendation by Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski
Letter signed by R. Chaim Ozer Grodzinski. Vilna, Shevat 1939.
Letter of recommendation for publishing a manuscript of the commentary of R. S. Sirilio on the Talmud Yerushalmi Seder Zera'im, by R. Yosef Dinkalis of Eretz Israel. In his letter, R. Chaim Ozer tells of his acquaintance with R. Dinkalis: "I am acquainted with R. Yosef Dinkalis from his youth and know of his great talent. On his short stay here, I discerned his Torah greatness even more". R. Chaim Ozer requests that "those who love the Torah and its learners" should help in publishing the manuscripts of R. S. Sirilio with the commentary of R. Y. Dinkalis.
Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski (1863-1940), pre-eminent Torah leader of his times, at the age of 11 he began his studies at the Volozhin Yeshiva under the tutelage of R. Chaim of Brisk and at 24 was appointed rabbi in Vilna. His involvement in public affairs began in his youth and for almost half a century, his opinion was sought as the deciding factor in all public issues which arose throughout the Jewish world. The first three parts of the Achiezer responsa were printed by the author himself (Vilna, 1922-1939), and Part 4 was printed from compilations (Bnei Brak, 1986).
Recipient of the recommendation: R. Yosef HaLevi Dinkalis (1894-1976), prominent Torah scholar, disciple of R. Itzele of Ponevezh, R. Baruch Ber Leibovitz and Rabbi Chaim Ozer. After his marriage, studied in the Kovne Kollel in Slobodka and immigrated to Eretz Israel with the Chevron Yeshiva in 1925. In his later years, he moved to Bnei Brak and studied in the Ponevezh Yeshiva and in the Chazon Ish Kollel. Holy Torah scholar, he devoted his entire life to Torah study and published numerous books on Sidrei Zera'im and Taharot: Seder Zera'im on the Talmud Yerushalmi with the commentary of R. S. Sirilio and Emunat Yosef and Da'at Yosef commentaries on Seder Taharot, etc.
Official stationery, 18X22 cm. Scribal writing, with concluding line handwritten and signed by R. Chaim Ozer. Good-fair condition. Stains. Filing holes to margins. Partial tear to folding mark.
