"Siddur Tefillot Yisrael – Gebeti Der Yuden", the First Siddur Printed in German - Berlin 1786
"Tefillot Yisrael", Vol. 2, includes year-round siddur translated into German, by David Freidlander. Berlin, 1786. Printed by "Chevrat Chinuch Ne'arim".
First edition of the siddur "Gebeti Der Yuden", printed in German in Hebrew letters by David Freidlander, a close companion of Moshe Mendelson and one of the founders of the Reform Movement. Volume 1 of the siddur was fully printed as a regular siddur in Hebrew, and volume 2 was printed in German, but its content is similar to the traditional siddur. Only after several decades did the Reform "advance" to inserting significant changes into the content of the siddur itself, omitting mention of belief in the creation of the world, the giving of the Torah, Messiah and resurrection of the dead.
[6], 172, 49, [2] leaves. 15.3 cm. Good condition, use stains and handwritten punctuation marks. Torn binding.
In the Bibliography Institute CD, a different copy appears with [14], 172, 49, [2] leaves. Apparently that copy has another section titled Gebeti Der Yuden with a etching of "Pitum HaKetoret" and an organ, and 5 leaves of names of subscribers [added to some copies. These leaves are missing (or were not originally bound) in this copy].
