King Solomon with Animals – Colored Enamel Board – Persia
King Solomon with animals. Persia, [beginning of 20th century].
Enamel board, written, drawn and colored by hand.
Impressive illustration in bold colors, King Solomon sitting on an elaborate throne surrounded by many animals. At the top of the board is the verse "Go out and see, Daughters of Zion, King Solomon with the crown his mother coronated him on his wedding day and on the day his heart rejoiced"; frame ornamented with flowers and birds. Apparently, the illustration is a variation of a scene which appeared in illustrated editions of the national Persian epos" Shahnemeh" (by the poet Ferdowsi) of the 16th-17th century which presents King Solomon surrounded by animals.
15.5X23 cm. elaborate frame 29X36 cm. Not examined out of the frame.
