CARTE-DE-VISITE PHOTOGRAPH of Madeline Henriques, seated view.
Photographer: New York Photographic Co.
Born into a celebrated Sephardic family in New York, Madeline Henriques (1841-1929) was a most successful actress during the Civil War and a favorite among New Yorkers. Perhaps she was best remembered for being the wife of Louis Jennings, editor of the New York Times, who exposed the Boss Tweed gang.
