First Editions of the Shulchan Aruch HaRav. Exceptionally Scarce. R. Dov Baer, the Maggid of Mehzritch, entrusted his disciple R. Shneur Zalman (the Alter Rebbe), with the task of preparing a ‘new’ Shulchan Aruch setting out clear, concise explanations and reasoning for the Halachah, as well as applied Chassidic custom. The Shulchan Aruch HaRav grew to become authoritative and was held in great esteem not just by Chassidim, but citations to the work are also found in the Mishnah Berurah, relied upon by Lithuanian Jews and the Ben Ish Chai, relied upon by Sephardic Jews. See S. Y. Zevin, Sopherim VeSepharim Vol. III, for an extensive essay on the importance of the Shulchan Aruch HaRav and the Kuntras Achron.
