PRIECHENFRIED, ALOIS HEINRICH.
Contemplative Rabbi.

Oil on panel. Trace of signature upper right.
Finely restored. 16.5 x 21 inches (42 x 53.3 cm).
Austrian, (1867-1953):
Provenance: 1. Moritz Lehmann, Berlin (d. 1932). 2. His daughter Tirza Lehmann. 3. Donated to Kibbutz Lavi, Israel (where it was displayed as “a painting by Isidor Kaufmann.”). 4. Purchased by the consignor. A fine example of Priechenfried’s Realist style, this painting is reminiscent of the portraiture of the artist’s contemporary, Isidor Kaufmann. Famed as a genre painter of the Vienna School, Priechenfried’s oevure included many portraits of Jewish subjects. For a very similar painting executed by Priechenfried, see Sotheby’s Judaica, 19th December 2018, Lot 140.
