One of the most desirable 20th century types, the Series 1928 high denomination Gold Certificates are scarce in all grades. Many notes were redeemed by the public when gold and Gold Certificates were recalled by RooseveltThe U.S. began issuing paper currency representing actual gold coinage in 1863. This practice continued until 1933, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the gold recall into effect. Series of 1928 $100 gold certificates are a refreshing change from the dime a dozen green seal and brown seal notes of the same era. 1928 gold certificates are unique in that they were only issued for one series year as a small size note.
