MASA’OS SHEL RABBI BINYAMIN. BAGHDAD 1866

Lithograph edition printed in Baghdad

The travel log of the legendary Benjamin of Tudela.

R. Binyamin (Benjamin) of Tudela (1130 – 1173) was a medieval Jewish traveler who visited Europe, Asia, and Africa in the 12th century. With his broad education and thorough knowledge of languages, his work is considered a reliable source of information on medieval Geography and Jewish History. Originally written in Hebrew, his itinerary was later translated first into Latin, and subsequently into most major European languages. It received much attention from Renaissance scholars in the 16th century.

Yaari Baghdad 2. B. M. Mizrachi press. 80 pages. 14.7 cm. Stained, minor worming slight marginal repair. Modern binding.
