Classics. Meir Nesiv. First Concordance! First Edition. Venice 1523
Hebrew Concordance, elucidating every word and its grammatical root in Tanach, by R. Yitzchok Nosson. The Meir Nesiv was the first Bible concordance in Hebrew.
This monumental work, on which the author labored for ten years, aimed to facilitate the study of Biblical exegesis and to prevent apostates from making incorrect quotations from the Bible, as was often the case. For hundreds of years the Concordance has been an indispensable work used as a primary reference by both scholars and laymen.
Two title pages. The first is entirely a copper plate engraving, stating that it was printed in 1524. Additionally, the colophon at the end of the work indicates that it was concluded on the 26th of Tishrei 1524. The second, shorter title page states that it was printed in 1523. Apparently, the printing began at the end of 1523, but was only concluded in 1524.
This second title page is rare and not included in most copies.
Stefansky Hebrew Classics 526. Vinograd Venice 93. Daniel Bomberg press. 405 pages. 37 cm. Wide margins. Some pages provided from another copy (slightly smaller). Overall very fine condition. Some minor damage and restorations. Magnificent modern leather binding.
