Empire Bronze Figural Candelabrum, Pierre Philippe Thomire
An Empire Gilt and Patinated Bronze Figural Four Light Candelabrum, Pierre Philippe Thomire, Paris, Circa 1810. Modeled as a Classical figure clutching a floor torchiere raised on a tall rectangular plinth base with applied reliefs of Classical figures in various pursuits. The plinth base incised 'P Thomire a Paris'.
Dimensions: Height 34 3/4in; width 12in; depth 11in.
Provenance: Property from a Philadelphia Main Line Collection.
Condition:
Nicely cast and chased. Well detailed. General marks, scratches, rubbing, spotting and darkening to gilding in areas. There is a small loss of applied decoration to the base of torchiere. Previously electrified; the rectangular gilt bronze base has a drilled hole to the reverse that once took a cord. There is a small crack to the gilt bronze base at reverse. Two candle arms are slightly loose. The bobeches are possibly replacements.
