American Sheraton Maple Chest of Drawers
An American Sheraton Maple Chest of Drawers, First Quarter 19th Century. The rectangular molded top with walnut parquetry inlaid frieze to three sides above four graduated drawers flanked by reeded stiles with shield inlay, sunken paneled sides, raised on cylindrical turned feet.
Dimensions: Height 44 1/2in; width 42 1/4in; depth 20 1/4in.
Condition:
Structurally sound. Retaining an old dry and dark finish. There is a small piece of molding to the top left side lacking (approximately 10"). The brass pulls are later. One brass pull lacking bail handle. Current hardware is obscuring original holes to drawer faces from center drilled pulls. Scaring from original pulls. The second drawer from the top with an old break and glued repair to the thumb molded lip. Brass escutcheons are later replacements, with vacant nail holes from earlier escutcheons. Otherwise general marks, wear and surface abrasions. All drawers retain brass locks. No key.
