General view of Moscow with its fortifications, coat of arms at upper left, legend at lower left, direction pointer at lower right and titled "Moscva" at upper right, published in Neuwe Archontologia cosmica, copper engraving, 1646, centre fold line (this a little bit lighter), browned, framed behind glass, image dimensions approx. 27 x 35 cm, sheet dimensions approx. 33.5 x 36.5 cm. Artist's info: Swiss engraver, bookseller and publisher (1593 Basel to 1650 Schwalbach), 1606-09 pupil of the engraver Dietrich Meyer and the glass painter Christof Murer in Zurich, 1610 with Friedrich Brentel in Strasbourg, 1625 took over the art dealer's shop of his father-in-law Johann Theodor de Bry in Frankfurt am Main, after his death his sons Matthäus the Younger and Caspar and later their descendants continued the publishing house under the name "Merians Erben" until 1727 and completed his main works "Topographia Germaniae" and "Theatrum Europaeum" , source: Thieme-Becker and Internet.
