Italienischer Meister wohl um 1800, Portrait des Apostels Paulus
bärtiger älterer Herr in brauner Kutte mit seitlich nach unten geneigtem Kopf, wohl den Apostel Paulus darstellend, insbesondere die Augenpartie liegt gegenüber den Lichtakzenten auf Stirn, Nase und Kinn im Dunklen, was auf die zeitweise Erblindung des Paulus anspielen mag, Öl auf Leinwand, wohl 18. Jh. und laut Einlieferer Italien, Retuschen, Craquelure, Leinwand doubliert und auf neueren Keilrahmen gespannt, in ansprechendem Hohlkehlrahmen aus Eichenholz, Falzmaße ca. 54 x 47,5 cm.
Italian master probably around 1800, Portrait of St Paul the Apostle
Bearded elderly gentleman in a brown robe with his head tilted downwards to the side, probably depicting St Paul the Apostle, in particular the eye area is in darkness compared to the light accents on the forehead, nose and chin, which may allude to the temporary blindness of St Paul, oil on canvas, probably 18th cent. According to the consignor, Italy, retouching, craquelure, canvas relined and stretched on a newer stretcher, in an attractive oak stretcher frame, rebated dimensions approx. 54 x 47.5 cm.
