Fine . Benin Bronze. Guardian of Oba
Possibly earlier. Guardian warrior of the Oba's King . Royal Crown, weapon etc. On stead. In regalia of Royal support, a privileged guardian of the king, the Oba. This high quality bronze is likely a product of the Royal Bronze Works reestablished in Benin in 1901-02, in response to the sacking of Benin , 1897 by the British Punitive Expedition. The original ancient version of this bronze is in the British Museum. Natural patina. 27"H.
