Rare letter on a repeat brit milah because of a mohel who messed up—handwritten and signed by Admor Rabbi Yitzhak Wertheim of Bender
Letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Yitzhak Wertheim of Bender, to the [Tolmogne?] community. In this interesting letter he warns the members of the community and demonstrates the need for the observance of the mitzvah of circumcision; following a mohel who performed incorrectly, the Rebbe proposes to perform a mitzvah of circumcision again for those who are circumcised by him.
Underneath Rabbi Yitzchak Wertheim’s signature, there is another signature, possibly that of Rabbi Avraham Konitzer, who was a Motz in Bender (see Otzar HaRabbanim 749).
Admor Rabbi Yitzhak Bender (died 1911) was the third Admor of Bender, and son-in-law of Rabbi Yosef of Radwil. He was known as a miracle-worker, and he was also famous for his amulets. He was close to Beit Ruzhin and especially the Admor Rabbi Avraham Yaakov (the First) of Sadigura. His doctrine was gathered in the work Beerot HaMayim.
[1] double leaf folded, 17cm. Good condition, light tears, stains.
