Complete Set of Sefer Magen Avot by the Admor Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Schneerson of Kopust - First Edition Berditchev, 1902

Sefer Magen Avot, 7 sections, on the Torah and Moadim, by the Admor Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Schneerson of Kopust, the grandson of the Admor the Tzemach Tzeddek.

Edited by the author's son Rabbi Yehuda Leib Schneerson - First edition Berditchev, 1902. Each section has two title pages.

Section I: Bereshit. [4], 48 leaves. With Drushim for Chanukkah.

Section II: Shemot. [2], 57 leaves. With DRushim for Parashat Zachor and Megillat Ester.

Section III: Vayikra. [2], 50 leaves. In this copy, [2] additional leaves with a Table of Initials. With Drushim for Passover.

Section IV: Bamidbar. [2], 80 leaves. With Drushim for Shavu'ot.

Section V: Devarim. [2], 105, [1] leaves. With Drushim for Rosh Hashanah, Shabbat Shuva, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Shmini Atzeret.

Section VI: [2], 49, [2] leaves. Originally, there were [2] additional leaves with the Table of Initials. In this copy, they were apparently bound in section III.

Section VII: Additions to Sefer Magen Avot [for all sections except for III] [2], 74, [1]; 15 leaves. The last 15 leaves contain the indices for all sections of the book.

The Rebbe said that the Mamarim in Magen Avot are "געשמאקע מאמרים". Magen Avot books, and even facsimile editions, are rare and hard to obtain.

Bound in two volumes with ancient bindings, without spines. Fine wide margins. Detached leaves and sheets. Stains. Some leaves with blemishes affecting the text. Some small tears. Good overall condition.

On one flyleaf, stamps: "בן ציון בהרב ארי" ליב האפט קלינצי" indicating this was the copy of Rabbi Ben Zion Hoft who was a Moreh Tzeddek in Klintzi, the son of Rabbi Aryeh Leib Hoft, who was Rav of Konotop and author of Shut Divrei Taam. Rabbi Ben Zion was close to the Mashgi'ach Rabbi Eliyahu Dessler.
