Lengthy halachic responsum handwritten and signed by Rabbi Moshe Schick – Mahara”m Schick. Yergen, 1852.
This is a responsum regarding the hiring of a private mentor and the terms of backing out of the agreement. The second part of the letter is on the on the topic ‘Shemos ve'Azkarot sheniskadshu' in tractate Gittin.
The responsum was written while he served as rabbi of Yergen by recommendation of his rabbi, the Chasam Sofer, and sent to Rabbi Moshe Arye Leib Litch Rosenbaum from Pressburg, disciple of the Chatam Sofer, who served as Dayan in Pressburg.
Approximately 30 lines in his holy hand, signed at the end with his name: “Moshe Schick of Brezová.”
Rabbi Moshe Schick (1807-1879) great disciple of the Chatam Sofer, renowned rabbi of Chust and its rosh yeshivah, greatest adjudicator of Hungary, and leader of faithful Judaism in Hungary. Wrote novellae on Shas, a series of books of responsa, sermons and more.
Rabbi Moshe Leib Litsch Rosenbaum (1814-1877) was born in Pressburg to his father Rabbi Rabbi Yehuda Rosenbaum, descendants of the Maharal of Prague and Chavas Yair. Was a devoted talmid of the Chasam Sofer and later became Rav of Pressburg during the living of the Ksav Sofer.
