Daniel Kafri was born in Czechoslovakia in 1945 and immigrated to Israel in 1949. He grew up in Kiryat Motzkin and at the age of 21 began studying at Bezalel with the help of a scholarship he received from the America-Israel Friendship Fund. In the 1970s he created various sculptural works for the Jewish Agency and the Jerusalem Municipality. In 1971 he won first prize in the competition for young artists at the Biennale in Monaco.
