רבי דוד נולד בשנת תקנ"ח בגונצהויזן לאביו רבי יצחק זעליגמן. למד גם אצל רבי אברהם בינג אב"ד וירצבורג, ורבי משה האכהיימר. חתן אחי רבי מענדל רוזנבוים מצעל. לאחר נישואיו גר בוירצבורג, משנת תק"צ אב"ד אויב, משנת תר"ט אב"ד וואלערשטיין. בשנת תרל"ו עבר להתגורר אצל חתנו רבי מרדכי מיכאל הכהן קאהן שם נפטר בשנת תרמ"ב ומנו"כ בוואלערשטיין. בנו רבי משה רב בפאריז, חתנו היה רבי חיים נתנזון.
