Harav Yaakov Shamash was the Rav and Rosh Yeshivah of Frankfurt during the era of the Baal Hafla’ah (1765-1785). He is mentioned on numerous occasions in letters and responsa written by his disciple the Chasam Sofer who refers to him as ‘Mori v’Rabbi’ and cites him frequently in his responsa on Shas.
