Royal Circus Farmer Van - Cast Iron Toy
Deluxe Horses with Plumes. Made by Hubley Mfg. Company. Lancaster, Pa. - Circa 1906 - 16" Long. Starting in 1906, Hubley Manufacturing produced an extensive line of cast iron circus toys licensed under the name Royal Circus. These included animal cages, mirror vans, bandwagons and several u uniquely themed pieces such as this Farmer Van. As the toy is pushed, the farmer's enormous head rises and lowers through the roof of the vehicle. Quite fascinatingly, Hubley needed to cast the farmer's head in aluminum so that the pulley mechanism could more easily raise the head, as it was less heavy than a head cast in iron.
