Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica 1000 CE-1500 CE. Gold pendant (38g, 22-24kt) depicting a frog with a double headed snake atop his head, arms of the frog downturned and the piece is pierced for suspension. Displays the characteristic wide flattened legs.

The Diquis culture was a pre-Columbian indigenous civilization that existed in what is now southern Costa Rica, particularly in the Diquis Delta region and the surrounding areas, between approximately 700 AD and 1530 AD. The Diquis culture is renowned for its exceptional goldwork and distinctive stone spheres. Size 2 1/4" W x 2" H
