Early Islamic Turquoise Glass Vase w/handles, Iran 8th-12th C.
Ancient Iran known as Persia, likely Nishapur 8th-12th century. An ancient vase with unusual Asian influenced featuring zoomorphic handles with rings, cut rose decoration to the bowl and notched incising to the neck of the vase. Formed in a thick glass, the vase has a white glass opaque base and cut decoration. The neck in translucent turquoise glass. Iridescent blue painted handles to either side that retain circular rings. Size 7" H x 5 3/4" W

Glass blowing was invented in the Syro-Palestinian region around the mid 1st century BCE or Parthian period. The Glass making techniques spread rapidly after this period and cut glass became an export by to China as early as the Sasanian period.
