French Second Empire Hussars Bombardier Sabretache, circa 1852-1870
Europe, France, Second Empire 1852-1870. French Second Empire Hussars Officers Bombardier Sabretache, circa 1852-70. Black or Ebonized dyed leather with applied gilt brass crowned eagle, replaced green velvet interior, retaining three suspension loops. Very fine condition and well preserved piece from a rare regiment. Size 11" H x 9" W
Under the rule of Napoleon III France initially saw wide spread economic growth and improved foreign policy, gradually after 1859 business with Britain declined and failing business investment turned to a new constitution and France's defeat at the Battle of Sedan which led to uprising and the abdication of Napoleon III and the end of the Second Empire.
