Oceania, Solomon Islands, San Cristobal, Makira province 19th/20th century Qauata or Qauaata parrying shield/war club with traditional dark patina. The form and patination more typical of traditional examples from the region. The hardwood leaf shape carved similar in fashion to diving fish and functions as a defensive weapon to parry or block attacks. Size 56 1/2" L, 22" W blade
