Early 20th c. Baule "Kapan Pre" Portrait or Dance Mask
Western Africa, Cote d'Ivoire, Baule or Baoule peoples Early 20th c. Fine Mask known as "Kapan Pre" Portrait or Dance Mask constructed of Hollowed-Out Wood. The designation meant to represent a young female or ancestor. Tall pointed skull with two crown protrusions to either side indicating a significant person, pointed triangular pierced ears, thin mouth and eyes with small circular pupil cutouts. 14" H x 7 1/2" L x 8 1/2" W
Collected prior to 2008, ex-Lacy Gallery (Vanna & Lee Lacy collection), Los Angeles CA. Lacy Gallery was founded upon six decades of collecting ethnographic and fine art. Lee Lacy was a distinguished Hollywood producer of iconic TV series and commercials.
