Excellent Pair of Silver, Fluted & Cased London Pistols by Manton
Excellent cased set of pistols with fluted barrels by Manton Gunsmith(s) but most probably George. The family was active the following; John Manton & Son (British, London 1815–1878) Gunsmith: John Manton (British, 1752–1834) Gunsmith: George Henry Manton (British, 1789–1854). Beautifully checkered wood walnut or rosewood stocks with silver engraved mounts including a lions head butt plate, engraved lock cylinder, and dolphin hammer. Engraving reads to right side (London) and left (Manton). Rifled barrels are exceptionally fluted 16 times and with original blue finish. Case set includes numerous accessories including bullet molds, original key, container, powder flask, and charge containers. Pistols by Manton and the family can be found among numerous museums including the Met (Accession number 32.75.138-.139). Size case 10 1/8" W x 6 1/2" L, pistol 6 1/4" L, barrel 1 7/8" L
