Rare Sheffield Combination Bowie Knife
Rare Sheffield combination bowie knife with scabbard. Marked to ricasso with a four lobed mark and a diamond mark reading below (I. WILSON, SYCAMORE, ?, SHEFFIELD ENGLAND). The handle in stag horn with another hidden folding knife blade. Scabbard in leather with gilt mounts. I. Wilson is a butcher knife company that was founded in Sheffield, England in 1750 and operated until 1970. The company was known for producing butcher knives in the 19th and early 20th centuries and many of these knives were exported to the United States. I. Wilson knives have been featured in fur trade history and are mentioned by name in the records of Pierre Chouteau Jr. & Co. from the 1820's to the 1840's. Size 15 3/4" L, blade 10 1/8" L
