Maya Mosaic Jade Mask, 500-800 CE
Pre-Columbian, Maya 500-800 CE mosaic jade or jadeite green hardstone maskette comprising of 14 individual pieces of blue green jade, two shell inset eyes, and obsidian pupils. Size 2 3/4" H x 2 3/4" W, 3 7/8" H on custom stand

Maya jade dream masks were likely used in rituals associated with death and the afterlife. They were believed to facilitate the transition of the deceased to the realm of the ancestors or the underworld. The masks may have been placed over the face or near to protect and guide them on their journey.
