African Chi Wara Antelope Headdress, Bamana 20th C.
West Africa, Mali, Bamana peoples probably mid or late 20th century carved wood (Chi Wara Headdress) antelope and figural headdress unusually carved with upward pointing horns and a female figure. The antelope is considered a symbol of agriculture and farming prowess among the Bambara people. Size 18 1/4" H
Collected prior to 2008, ex-Lacy Gallery (Vanna & Lee Lacy collection), Los Angeles CA. Lacy Gallery was founded upon six decades of collecting ethnographic and fine art. Lee Lacy was a distinguished Hollywood producer of iconic TV series and commercials.
