African Wood Grain Pounder
African Baule wood millet pounder from a single piece of wood. Mortars and pestles are still used today to finely pound and crack ingredients including but not limited to herbs, grains, spices and nuts. It's said the pounding sounds a beat to the primal rhythms of life. Size 45" L

Family collection of an esteemed diplomat and ambassador amassed during travel and work circa 1960-1990s in the medical field providing charitable advanced medical care throughout the African continent and internationally.
Condition: As-is condition with patina and loss from daily use throughout. The varying color of wood shows it was mainly used on one side, the caramel like color to the wood is from oils both from the ingredients and hands used.
