Excellent Asante Royal 'Asipim' Court Chair
West Africa, Ghana, Asante Royal court throne chair known as an Asipim or stand form royal chair of the Asante court. Exclusively used by chiefs and court figures with innumerable European brass embossed panels, appliques, tacks and "Mpeaboo" gold weight shaped decoration over the wood with hide seat bottom. The top of the chair decorated with two finials known as "Ntuatire", often in a eagle talons form. Among chieftain the more chairs (Asipim) an Akan chief posses the more powerful they are. Some lesser chief only posses four thrones while very powerful chief possess 14 or more. Size 29 1/2" H, 17 1/2" W, 14 7/8" D
