Ancient Nok Terracotta Head, 500 BCE-500 CE
Terracotta head of a male figure with hat and wide brow.
Nok figures and the discovery of the culture circa 1928 has indicated the remains of the Nok civilization once span a large area of Nigeria, Niger, and portions of Eastern Benin. The figures are marked by a style of elongated faces with horizontal triangular eyes and often depict warriors or important figures. Size 7" H on included custom stand.
Family collection of an esteemed diplomat and ambassador amassed during travel and work circa 1960-1990s in the medical field providing charitable advanced medical care throughout the African continent and internationally.
Condition: Loss to remainder of figure, thick stable fissure to left side of head and across eyes.
