Pre-Columbian Textile Fragment, Chancay 200 CE-600 CE
Finely woven textile mounted on a wood framed wood board. Dark chocolate brown textile with added geometric embroidery in yellow, red and coral coloring to the top and bottom. Known as a precursor to the classic period Acoma manta. Close to half the size of a manta similar to an Acoma piece woven 800 years later with brocaded or embroidered end bands in vegetal colors, just like the Puebloans wove using indigo and cochineal in the middle of the 19th century. Size 26 1/2" H x 16 3/4" W, in frame 38 1/2" H x 26 1/2" W
