Medieval Islamic Feline Bronze Oil Lamp
Fine antique Medieval bronze oil lamp with 5-pointed ends, probably Seljuk Dynasty 10th - 12th century. Wide flared base. Inscribed to the top of the body. Feline head top and two feline loop handles to either side. Islamic oil lamps were used to light the interiors of public buildings such as mosques, madrasas, khanqahs, and mausolea. Some vessels were even suspended from the ceiling by long chains attached to loops on their sides. Size 5 1/4"H x 6 1/4" W
Condition: good with wear to surface and patination from age and use.
