Rare Native American Ball Head War Club, Shawnee Tribe Circa 1760-1800s
North America, Eastern Woodlands or Northeastern Woodlands probably Shawnee tribe circa 1760-1800s. Rare and early example of a well preserved Native American ball head war club. Exceptional form with a tapered shaft to a heavy ball head and featuring a carved effigy snake head pommel or handle. Cross hatched patterns stripped to the shaft base above the handle which is recessed slightly for grip. The remainder decorated in a three leaf (tobacco leaf) pattern to shaft. Shaft just below the ball head is dimpled. Size 19 1/2" L
