Scarce Tulancingo Cuirassiers Armour, 19th c. Mexico
Mexico Siege weight officers cuirass armour, 19th century. Probably for the Tulancingo Cuirassiers or the cuirass of Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico. Supplied and supported by France, Mexico adopted close variations of the French cuirass armour and carried their use for a longer period of time. Known to be quite spectacular when in full uniform the Tulancingo Cuirassiers only rarely adopted to use the extremely heavy siege weight cuirass over their blue and crimson red uniforms. Along with their very heavy siege weight breast and backplate the uniform would include an embossed gilt brass helmet. Size 14" H x 15" W
Ex-Arizona Private Collection, Ex-South Arizona Saloon prior
Condition: Excellent condition with light stabilized spots of wear and corrosion. Liner original to rear, absent to the front with visible arsenal numbers on the breastplate. Backplate has inscription to the center and side illegibly.
