Southeast Asian 'Shouldered Adze' Stone Collection, Mai Pha Culture 3000-2500 BCE
Southeast Asia, Vietnam. The Red River Delta and neighboring regions. Collection of three shouldered adze of the late Neolithic period, and probably Mai Pha culture 3000-2500 BCE. The two examples - grey stone left and polished orange sandstone - at either side in a form characteristic of shouldered Adze typically found throughout Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia. One of the earliest and most recognizable forms. Center example a larger shouldered Adze in dark black stone probably volcanic rock or dark shale stone. Size of largest 5" L
