Philippines Kalasag Wood Shield, Ex-Appleton-Smith Collection
Philippines Archipelagos, Luzon province, Kalasag shield in blonde and black color, circa late 19th century. Collected during the late 19th century and during the Insurrection by Appleton Smith. Brigadier General Frederick Appleton Smith collected wartime trophies and personal items during his lifetime(1849-1922). Over his 40 year career he served extensively in the Western Frontier, Cuba, and the Philippines. The General retired circa 1913. Size 41" L x 10" W
Ex-Appleton-Smith Collection, Ex-Southern California Collection
Condition: Professional Museum restoration by a Philippines Restorer, light crack vertically / length wise to one side, light restoration to pigment, old and later restoration to two prongs. Rattan probably all original.
