A night view of the Place Pigalle in Paris. Color lithograph printed in an edition of 290 numbered in pencil, signature on the stone. Signed ( on litho) lower left margin Van Dongen and Bon a tirer ( proof, good to shoot) on the lower right margin in pencil. Printed circa 1950. Artist : Cornelis Theodorus Maria "Kees" van Dongen Dutch-French painter. Born: January 26, 1877, Rotterdam, Netherlands. Died: May 28, 1968, Monte Carlo, Monaco. Periods: Fauvism, Post-Impressionism, Pointillism. This area of Paris is named after the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Pigalle (1714–1785). Pigalle is famous for being a tourist district, with many sex shops, theatres, and adult shows on Place Pigalle and the main boulevards. Framed size:25 x 19 inches
