Good pair of World War I-era food rationing posters, includes: red-and-black colored poster, 21 x 28.5 in., encouraging readers to "Save and serve the cause of freedom" while providing a list of dietary substitutes for rationed foods, in part: "Wheat...use more corn...Meat...use more fish & beans..." The bottom center bears the label "U.S. Food Administration", while the bottom-left bears the label "No. 2" and the bottom right bears the publishing line: "The W. F. Powers Co. Litho. N.Y."". Offset toning at bottom, minor horizontal surface creases, else very good. WITH: red-and-black poster, 20.5 x 28 in., depicting a Catholic Cardinal Mercier: "Cardinal Mercier has appealed to the U.S. Food Administration for more food for starving millions. Eat less wheat-meat-fats-and sugar. Ship more to the war-stricken people of France - Belgium - Italy". The bottom left bears the label "No 10" and the bottom right bears the publisher's line "Latham Litho & Ptg. Co. Brooklyn, N.Y." Slightly worn edges, diagonal fold at the top-left corner, spot of adhesive residue on the verso, else very good.
