BLUEPRINTS FOR PROPOSED NAVAL BELT BUCKLES, CA. 1840-45

Good archive from the Ames Manufacturing Company, which manufactured American military equipment until the early-twentieth century. Includes: original drawings for three proposed naval belt buckles and cross belt plates, sketched on an 8 x 6.75 in. piece of paper, ca. 1840-1845, including two buckles prominently featuring a fouled anchor and one buckle with "USN" lettering. Damp staining at center, one spot of foxing, else very good. Sold with a great collection of approx. 14 letters and documents, ca. 1787-1850s, many letters to or from the company's founders NATHAN P. AMES and JAMES T. AMES, mostly routine content, with some business correspondence, yet many have gone unread and unresearched by us. Generally worn and toned, just good condition overall.
