WINIFRED WAGNER
WINIFRED WAGNER
(1897-1980) English-born wife of Siegfried Wagner, the son of Richard Wagner, who ran the Bayreuth Festival after her husband's death in 1930 until the end of World War II in 1945. She was a friend and supporter of Adolf Hitler (himself a Wagner enthusiast), and she and Hitler maintained a regular correspondence. Good association T.L.S. in German, 1p. oblong 8vo., Bavaria, April 1, 1932, to her cousin referencing her prominent relatives and other prominent composers. In part: "...Eva passed the questionnaire on to me...I knew neither Liszt [composer FRANZ LISZT (1811-1886)], nor my mother-in-law [Richard Wagner's second wife, COSIMA WAGNER (1837-1930)], during the time she was in normal health...I can provide no information on that subject. Where Siegfried [composer SIEGFRIED WAGNER (1869-1930)] is concerned, I believe that the correct answer is provided by the passage on page 51 of the Hutchen libretto...". Wagner signs at the conclusion. One vertical fold, slightly cockled at right edge, else very good to fine.
