Etched Portrait of the Maharsha. Vienna 5574 [1814]

Etched drawing of the Maharsha by Sebastian Langer, signed in print-like Hebrew: "Sebastian Langer Petsit".

It was printed at the beginning of sefer Chidushei Halachos- Maharsha, Vienna edition. 5574 [1814].

In the drawing, a sage is sitting in a room filled with sefarim, by a table with a pen in his hand. In the drawing, the Maharsha appears with long hair.

A legend is told about the Maharsha, relating that he grew long hair in order to tie it up high, so that in the case that he would fall asleep while learning and his head would thereby fall a bit, he would immediately awaken.

Page size: 22x30 cm. A few professionally restored defects and holes. Additionally, the margins have been professionally restored.
