MINCHAS CHINUCH. FIRST EDITION LEMBERG 1869

Classic work authored by Rabbi Yosef Babad as a commentary to Sefer Hachinuch. Published anonymously, it quickly became enormously popular, and is recognized as a definitive work.

R. Yosef Babad (1801-1874) was born into a rabbinical family and was renowned from a young age as a brilliant Talmid Chochom. He was a student of R. Shimon of Yaroslov, R. Dovid of Zavlotov (later his father in law) and particularly of R. Naftali of Ropchitz, to whom he referred as his Rebbe. He was married to the daughter of R. Aryeh Leibish Halberstam of Tarnigrod, and for a while studied with his brother in law, R. Chaim Halberstam of Tzanz (the Divrei Chaim). He served as Rav in various communities, most notably Taranpol, and was thus known as the Taranpoler Rav. Held in the greatest esteem by the great Torah leaders, his magnum opus Minchas Chinuch received almost unprecedented acclaim, and remains an extremely important Talmudic work.
