Civil War Identified Artillery Major Shoulder Boards
Original Civil War to 1870s era Artillery Major's shoulder boards from Tully McCrea. He was an 1862 USMA grad who was George Custer's Roommate. He fought at Antietam, was breveted to Captain as a Union Artillery Officer defending against Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg, and was seriously wounded in action in 1864 earning a Brevet to Major. He would serve a total of 41 years, retiring as a Brigadier General in 1903. They have a single snap receiver sewn to the backings, done in the early 1900s when these were attached to a display board of family military mementos. Consignor personally obtained these from McCrea's family descendants and have never been in a collection before.
