German Bible – Johannes Piscator's Translation – Two Parts – Herborn, 1604 and 1605
Biblia, das ist alle Bücher der H. Schrift – the Bible translated by Johannes Piscator. Herborn: Christoff Raben, 1604 and 1605. German. The first two parts, bound together.
The first two parts of the Bible translated by Reformed theologian Johannes Piscator (1546-1625). First part: the Pentateuch; second part: Joshua, Judges, the Scroll of Ruth, 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel, 1 Kings and 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and the Scroll of Esther (subsequent parts were printed separately, later).
In this edition of the Bible (known as the Piscator Bible), Piscator strived to introduce a translation that was more loyal to the Hebrew and Greek sources than the Martin Luther translation which preceded it.
