The auction will take place on Saturday, April 24th, 2021 starting at 1:30 pm EST. We will be presenting the auction with limited in-gallery attendees as well as live online.

Previews will be held by appointment only which can be arranged by calling (845)372-4787 during normal business hours.

Original oil on canvas portrait of Arthur Smith by Anthony Toney. Very Good to fine condition original canvas. 30 x 24 inches. Anthony Toney (1913-2004) taught at the New School of Social Research and enjoyed a seven-decade art career. He studied in Paris, painted murals under the auspices of the Works Progress Administration, fought with the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in the Spanish Civil War, and also served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He exhibited regularly at the ACA Gallery in New York and published a book, "Creative Painting and Drawing" (Dover), in 1968. His works are in numerous public collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Va., and the New Britain Museum in Connecticut.
