Manuscript in English, Hebrew and Yiddish written in a very fine calligraphic hand. Exceptional artistry on almost every page. Dedicated family pages recording names of loved ones. Many lists of donors (men and women) and honorary officers. Exceptionally bound: Ledger with heavy leather boards, upper cover with Hebrew engraved applied metal shield cartouche. Housed in custom metal box whose hinged lid bears engraved Hebrew dedications.
pp. 70 (excluding blanks). Lightly worn and stained. Large folio.
Bronx: 1938

A beautiful volume created by a master calligraphic artist, who left his (her) magnificent work unsigned and therefore, is unfortunately nameless. The synagogue was established in 1928 and this volume was begun in commemoration of its tenth Anniversary. It was led by Rabbi Abraham Isaac Edelman and his wife, Rebbetzin Etel (nee Rosengarten). The least entry recorded here is from the year 1947. Located at 808 Cauldwell Avenue in the Woodstock section of the South Bronx (north of Mott Haven and west of Hunts Point), the synagogue building no longer exists. Aside from being a singular mine of genealogical information, the quality of the artistry contained here is quite remarkable.
